Superintendents and Principals,
In 2006, A.C.E. was awarded an OPI grant to use in training a group of volunteer educators in the area of Indian Education.
The attached list contains the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of the 22 trainers that have completed 35 hours of in-class training. They are eager to disseminate this information to your schools during the 2007-2008 school year, There will be no cost to you except for mileage and for the cost of handouts supplied for the educators in attendance. The prepared sessions will require about 1 1/2 hours, perfect for early-out days.
The trainers will address Montana public schools’ mandate to integrate Indian Education for All. They will specifically address the first three Essential Understandings (also attached) in relation to our immediate neighboring tribes, the Crow and Northern Cheyenne. The trainers will also help teachers choose resources for classroom use that contain accurate and appropriate information about the contributions and heritage of our neighboring tribes.
Each school that contacts a trainer for a workshop, will receive a copy of the PowerPoint presentation and will receive several excellent resource books for its faculty library.
Please contact one of the trainers closest to your school to schedule a workshop. Each workshop will be geared to a single teaching level: K-4, or 5-8 or 9-12. If your school covers several levels, you will need to request a trainer for each one. Individual trainers have the appropriate materials only for the level listed with their name.
I will assist small rural schools such as Luther, Nye, etc. in attending workshops arranged by neighboring larger schools.
The Indian Education for All trainers are looking forward to sharing with you information that will be beneficial in assisting schools in meeting the requirements of the IEA state mandates.
It will be my pleasure to answer any further questions you may have.
Very truly yours,
Gail T. Richardson
