About 80 drivers attended the ACE PIR Day Bus Driver Training Workshop on September 14, 2010 in Billings.
Drivers participated in an activity in which they entered a small bus filled with non-irritating smoke to experience what it would be like to find and evacuate a child in this situation. ACE director Jerry Scott even took part in the exercise. Trainer Dan Duenwald of Harlow's Bus Service is also seen in this picture.
Part of the day-long workshop included parking lot maneuvers. One activity involved drivers moving through a set of cones representing a single lane of road.
Diving a large school bus and maneuvering it in tight circumstances takes a lot of practice and skill.
Turning into a narrow line of cones and keeping a bus tire within a tire-width area is not easy.
The bus driver in this demonstration shows how difficult maneuvers can be accomplished with a lot of practice.
Dan Duenwald talks about the bus exercises. Dan was the trainer for the day-long workshop which sharpened the skills of bus drivers who work in many of the ACE school districts.
Pictured here is the skilled driver that demonstrated the training maneuvers. His years of practice and experience serve him well.
There were many items on the agenda for the day included driver wellness, pre-trip inspections, handling emergency triangles, student management, first aid kit demonstration, safe railroad crossing procedures, loading and unloading, and bus evacuations.
