ACE Board Meeting Minutes

November 17, 2010 ACE Board Meeting
9:00 A. M. @ Billings Hotel and Convention Center

Present were ACE board members Al Sipes, Tim Dolphay, Josh Middleton, Brenda Koch, Mark Brajcich and Jennifer Hickok.

Guests present were Brent Lipp, Deani Kirkness, Andrea Fisher, Carl Somers, and Tobin Novasio. Jerry Scott was also present for the meeting.
  1. Call to order, introductions
    Al called the meeting to order at 9:10 A.M. with introductions.
  1. Approval of October 27, 2010 minutes
    Mark moved to approve the October 27 minutes as presented. Tim seconded the motion which passed 6 - 0.
  1. Financial report
    The board commented that they will need to address the ACE budget after they make decisions on the new director position. The board accepted the report as presented.
  1. Dr. Jeff Walker, Pryor Superintendent
    Jerry reported on his visit at Pryor and ACE’s wiliness to help in any manner that they can.
  1. New member workshop, 6 Trait workshop, MAP Testing workshop
    The new member workshop will be held in Laurel on December 8. Information and materials are coming in on the 6 + 1 trait-writing workshop. Jerry requested all bills and information be sent to him at the conclusion of the workshop. The MAP testing workshop was held in Laurel on November 29.
  1. ACE March 7, 2011 and September 12, 2011 PIR days
    The board instructed Jerry to contract with the Crown Plaza for the March 7, 2011 ACE PIR day. He has contacted two of Jay McTighe’s associates to review understanding by design to two grade level groups and to help with smaller sections in the afternoon. More details will be presented at the December board meeting.

    The board felt that the September 12, 2011 ACE PIR day should follow the same format … a morning session by a speaker followed by afternoon sessions for smaller groups.
  1. ACE Director position
    Al is accepting applications through December 1. The board will meet at 9:30 in Laurel on December 8 to review the applications and select the ones they wish to interview.
  1. Curriculum review
    Gail was unable to attend the meeting but has posted email on what the committee has been working on. The final product will be posted on the mtace.org web site.
  1. Technology train the trainer
    Al and Jerry attended the November 11 Interactive White Board Consortium meeting in Laurel. There are 8 ACE schools and 2 non-ACE schools that will send representatives to be trained as trainers January 18 - 21 in Laurel. The non-ACE schools will be billed $600 for their share of the training costs. Al said the goal is to have trainers that can go to schools to help use technology in the classroom integrating materials for teachers and students. The consortium group visited about the ability to store lessons that are produced so others can access them. Deani said that she could work on that project and link the lessons to the ACE web site. Tobin said the lessons would need to have someone review, sort, classify and then link to standards and the ACE curriculum.
  1. National ASCD conference … March 25 - 27, 2011, San Francisco
    The final date for applications is December 5 with the board approving the list at their December 15 meeting.
  1. Billings Catholic Schools
    No money or contract has been received at this date but staff members are participating in the curriculum reviews stating that they are impressed at the process and product.
