ACE board members present: Al Sipes, Jennifer Hickok and Andy Begger
Guests present: Brent Lipp, Harold Olson, Carl Somers, and Tobin Novasio. Jerry Scott and Andrea Fisher were also present for the meeting.
- Call to order, introductions
Chairman Al Sipes called the meeting to order at 11:30 making sure everyone knew one another.
- Approval of April 27, 2011 minutes
Because of the lack of a quorum of board members, Al instructed Jerry to poll the ACE board by email or phone for the approval of the minutes. Email and phone returns indicated a 5 - 0 vote to approve the minutes of the April 27, 2011 meeting.
- Financial report
The financial report through May 31, 2011 was reviewed and is on file at the ACE office.
- Gail Richardson report
Gail sent Jerry a message indicating that all of the curriculum work has been completed and is on line at the ACE web site. The ACE booklets are near completion but Gail needs to cross check the Sciences for grades 5 and 6 before posting them on the web site. Gail indicated that she received very little response on which textbooks schools were using, but she will continue trying. Elder Grove did send Gail an update on their textbooks including new purchases.
- Board Positions
Brent Lipp, Walter Acra, Harold Olson, Jeff Bermes, Tobin Novasio and Carl Somers all indicated a desire to fill the two open positions on the ACE board. Because of the lack of a quorum, Al instructed Jerry to poll the board using email and/or phone calls to indicate their vote for the two new ACE board members. The results of the poll indicated that Brent Lipp and Harold Olson were elected to the board.
- 2011 - 2012 PIR days ... Andrea Fischer
Final March 7, 2011 PIR expense report
Andrea reported that Lisa Carter could not present for the March 5, 2012 PIR day. Andrea passed out information from an organization called Curriculum 21 that included a proposal for training throughout the 2011 - 2012 school year. Andrea stated that she felt Curriculum 21 would be able to meet the goals and needs for ACE training for the next school year. After discussion, and because of the time line, Al instructed Andrea to contract with Curriculum 21 to have Bill Sheskey present at the March 5, 2012 ACE PIR day. Bill is the contributing author in Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacob's book Curriculum 21: An Essential Education for a Changing World. Information will be placed on the ACE web site.
Jerry passed out information summarizing the expenses for the March 7, 2011 ACE PIR day as well as information received thus far on what schools and how many staff members plan to attend the 2011 - 2012 ACE PIR days.
- 2011 - 2012 Dues / Budget
The proposed budget based on the same dues as last year was reviewed.
- 6+1 Trait training
One of the three teachers selected to attend the Oregon training had to drop out because she took a job at a non-ACE school. Jerry is working with Lorrie Henrie-Koski to obtain refunds. Lorrie paid for the plane tickets and registration using her credit card and ACE reimbursed her for those expenses. The airline indicated that they would send a refund in the form of a $100 voucher. Jerry will collect the voucher and give it to Andrea for future use. Lorrie will reimburse ACE for any payment she received as refunds.
- Clerk position
Proposals were received from Jeanne Carroll and Roger Heimbigner. Andrea indicated that she had worked with Roger before and would feel more comfortable with him being the ACE clerk. Jerry said he visited with Jeanne and she indicated she would be fine with what ever the board decided. Jerry then asked if he could buy a $100 gift certificate for Jeanne's work this past year and those present felt this would be fine. Because of the lack of a quorum, Al instructed Jerry to poll the board using email and/or phone calls to indicate their vote on the clerk position. The poll approved Roger Heimbigner as the 2011 - 2012 ACE clerk on a 5 - 0 vote.
- MAP Testing
Jerry reviewed the information he has received on how many ACE schools and students will be tested next school year. He was instructed to use the numbers he now has and to bill the schools as soon as possible.
- Montana ASCD meeting
Jerry attended the May 6 Montana ASCD meeting and the A - Z meeting held in Helena. He reported that the majority of the business dealt with the upcoming June 13 - 17 Montana Educator's Institute. Detailed information can be found on the Montana ASCD web site.
