ACE Board 2005-06 Meeting Minutes

November 30, 2005 ACE Board Meeting
9:00 A. M. @ Billings Hotel and Convention Center

Attending were ACE Board members Bob Barnes, Al Sipes, Dave Huether, Andy Begger and Mark Brajcich.  Guests were Joey Begger, Jennifer Hickok and Brenda Koch.  Jerry Scott was present for the meeting as well.

  1. Bob called the meeting to order at 9:15 A.M. and welcomed everyone.

  2. Dave Huether made a motion to approve the October 26, 2005 minutes as presented. Andy Begger seconded the motion which passed 5 – 0.

  3. Mark Brajcich moved to approve the finance report as presented. Dave Huether seconded the motion which passed 5 – 0. Mark mentioned that he would like to see how the finance report compared to a year ago and Jerry said he would present that information from now on.

  4. Jerry reported that both Busby and Lame Deer were sent contracts as well as a disk containing the ACE curriculum and the K – 6 booklets. Both schools committed over the phone to joining at $7,000, which includes 05 – 06 membership, all books and disks and training.

  5. Jerry Mills will be presenting for the March 6, 2006 ACE PIR day in Laurel. Information on the day will be sent to ACE schools before the Christmas break. The board also discussed the 2006 – 2007 ACE PIR day plans. A number of options were discussed including a full day national speaker, a half day speaker with a variety of sessions for the second half of the day, two PIR day sites, INTEL training, Indian education for all, and other ideas. Jerry will continue to try to contact Dr. Levine as the first choice. The board felt that because MEA days would be in Billings next fall, ACE should NOT offer any workshops at that time. The board directed Jerry to contact Dr. Levine for the September 11, 2006 workshop.

  6. On December 8th Gail Richardson will lead another Math curriculum review for Junior High where they will look at strands. This meeting will be held at DJ’s in Laurel from 9 AM – 4 PM. Jerry will conduct an iAnalyze workshop from 1 – 4 at the Laurel Middle School computer lab on that same day.

  7. Jerry reported on ACE technology grant activities and said Liz Cunningham would like to do a full or half day training for all ACE members during one of our PIR days.

  8. The list of names of those who replied to attend the ACSD conference in Chicago on April 1 – 3, 2006 were presented to the board. The board reviewed the motion to pay for all of the expenses for ACE board members as well as Jerry and Gail to attend. Six other names were presented where ACE would pay 2/3 of the cost to attend: Doug Neihart, Match Young, Kirt Nell, Janet Weston, Dani Wheeler, and Fritzie Walker. The approximant cost to attend would be $1,500. Andy Begger made a motion to allow all those on the list to attend with expenses paid as agreed last month. Dave Huether seconded the motion which passed 5 – 0.

  9. Information on a technology in Education conference in Portland Feb. 7 – 10, 2006 was passed to those in attendance.

  10. The MASCD Textbook Exhibitor Fairs will be held on January 26 in Missoula and January 30 in Bozeman. This is a good opportunity for schools to see presentations by a number of text book companies.

  11. Information on Indian Ed for All workshops presented by the University of Montana was discussed. It was the feeling of the board to see if Luke Enemy Hunter would do a presentation for ACE.

  12. Next meeting will be held at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center on December 21 at 9:00 A.M.

  13. The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 am.
