Grant Director: Gail Richardson
Gailal84@earthlink.net 633-2246 or 698-7960 (C)
ACE has been awarded their second IEA Grant (Indian Education for All) through OPI. It is a short and quick grant that must be completed by then end of this summer. OPI Renewal Units are given, graduate credits will beearned (not sure how many)and participants are paid $50 for each day for their time. Please read the GRANT for specifics.
You will be expected to attend all field trips, though there are always extenuating circumstances that may cause a change in that. Missing a field trip will affect the amount of money you earn and may affect your ability to earn graduate credits as those are based on the # of hours of class.
Here are the dates for the field trips: All field trips will be hosted by a Native
American guide – we will be their guests.
If there is a member of your faculty that is interested in participating in this grant, please have them email me ASAP. All they need to do is state their school, grade level &/or subject that they teach, their email address and they must ask their administrator to write a very brief email to me stating if they feel the applicant is capable and responsible enough to fulfill the obligations as stated in the grant.
Most Current Info 2/28/08
Our first field trip is set for March 8th to Chief Dull Knife College and Deer Medicine Rock. Our host will be Richard Little Bear who has been our partner in the previous grant and has welcomed us again. We are set to leave from MSU-B College of Education located on Normal St. (access site location http://www.msubillings.edu/campus/maintour.htm) at 7:30 AM. Please bring along a sack lunch and any beverages (non-alcoholic) that you may wish as the campus cafeteria is closed on weekends.
I would like to invite spouses or mature teens from your families if you would like to have them join us. There will be plenty of bus room. We will be using bus travel time to share information and to work on the "guides" we will create for other teachers and students. If you have a laptop, bring it along. Paper, pencils, etc. will be necessary equipment. Anyone who would like to bring a video camera to record our day? Let me know.
Before you go you must also take the Pre test at the following Monkey Survey site. Please apply the questions to the Crow and Cheyenne tribes specifically, instead of the 7 tribes of Montana as the questions state UNLESS the question is something about knowing there are 7 tribes - but when it comes to background and knowledge questions consider them to be specifically about the Crow and Cheyenne. Don't sweat it - make sensible judgments as you go remembering that our grant(s) have dealt only with the Crow and Cheyenne and we are measuring your growth in comfort, information, and knowledge of these two tribes. When we are done we will take the post test. Once you log on you must take the test and you will not be able to log on a second time so do ONLY the PRETEST now.
